NYC Jacked Up High School Admissions #063

Podcast
Every year in NYC, thousands of middle school and junior high school studends prepare to apply to their favorite high schools. Based on their academic performance, they were usually pretty confident in where that would be. Well, not anymore. In an ill-fated attempt to make high school admissions more diverse, students were divided up into a lottery system that has confused and upset many. Students who have spent years getting the highest grades and extra-curricular achievements so they could attend the best schools in the city, are now at the mercy of a random algorithm. I hope you'll listen in and let me know your thoughts on this jacked up hot mess! If you missed my other episodes, you can find them here: https://www.statementsofopinion.com/episodes

Food Delivery Rant #060

Podcast
Okay, I know it seems like I have a few bones to pick with food delivery drivers, but really I think my rant this time is justified! There are many drivers who are going on Tik Tok to complain about the customers who don't want to come downstairs from apartments to get their food. They refuse to bring it to their doors, and will just eat it or throw it out when the time limit expires. Now, I don't know if that's just pure laziness, but isn't it in the job description to deliver the food? In this episode I get into it, so if you can relate, or even if you disagree and think drivers have it rough, then listen in on this episode and leave a comment! Missed…

Hard Pass on Mukbangs #056

On Youtube there are many trends and videos that are interesting, exciting and adventurous. But mukbangs don't fall in any of those categories for me! Celebrities Who Get Away With Crimes #055

Podcast
Warning: I will be talking about highly sensitive crimes involving minors, although I do not go into specifics. There is a recent documentary about Jimmy Savile, a British entertainer and celebrity, who after his death was found to have committed pretty horrible crimes. But there had been rumors for years about his behavior. Why wasn't he stopped sooner? In this episode I discuss how it seems that being a celebrity often means you can get away with crime. Or at the very least, light punishment. It is a really disturbing trend and something we need to fix.  Have you missed any other episodes? Medication Error or Negligent Homicide? #054

Podcast
A nurse, RaDonda Vaught was recently convicted of Negligent Homicide for making a terrible medication error that lead to a patient's death in 2017. There is a lot of controversy over the fact that she was even prosecuted in the first place. Many nurses feel that this case sets a bad precedent. Errors happen because we are human, now they have to think twice before they can give patients the care they need. But is this case really that cut and dry? Or does it point to a healthcare professional who cut one too many corners? In this episode I discuss this case and try to figure out if it was just a terrible mistake, or a clear case of negligent homicide. Maybe you can be the judge. Listen to…
