Today, kids are very protected from head to toe. If they ride their bikes, they will be wearing mandatory helmets. If they are roller skating, they will most likely have knee pads and elbow pads too. And don’t forget those ultra safe playgrounds fully equipped with kid safe materials like foam rubber mats and rounded edged plastic slides and climbing bars.
But what about us adults? Our childhood pastimes were dangerous! Helmets-who wore those? And don’t get me started on those monkey bars of death! You needed a tetnus shot just looking at them!
It’s a true miracle that any of us made it out of the 70’s and 80’s with all of our limbs intact! In this episode, join me as I take a trip down memory lane discussing just how dangerous it was for kids back then and how things have changed.
I talk about all of the crazy things my friends and I used to do that would make a parent today gasp in horror! Don’t get me wrong-our parents were wonderful, loving people. But they were definitely more trusting as well! I mean, it was a relatively safer time. Bad things happened, but not often enough for us to have to change our ways or stay by our parents’ sides.
Make sure you strap on your padding, grab a partner for safety and listen in as I wonder in awe how we survived!
