Every year in NYC, thousands of middle school and junior high school studends prepare to apply to their favorite high schools. Based on their academic performance, they were usually pretty confident in where that would be. Well, not anymore. In an ill-fated attempt to make high school admissions more diverse, students were divided up into a lottery system that has confused and upset many. Students who have spent years getting the highest grades and extra-curricular achievements so they could attend the best schools in the city, are now at the mercy of a random algorithm. I hope you’ll listen in and let me know your thoughts on this jacked up hot mess!
